Some of the most amazing spectacles can often be hidden away and just down the road.
Take Hidcote, a National Trust property in the rolling Cotswold hills near the ancient town of Chipping Campden.
It turns out this has a world-famous Arts and Crafts-inspired garden spanning 10.5 acres with a central axis running from East to West and another North to South, forming corridors off which ‘garden rooms’ can be found, each one with its own character and personality.

There’s also a chapel, cafe, shop and plant centre.

Tickets normally cost £11 for adults and £5 for children but there’s a way of getting free entry on selected dates in March, thanks to the National Lottery’s Open Week.
You simply have to take along a paper or digital lottery ticket of any date to gain free entry from March 7 to 14.
Chipping Campden is worth a day out in itself as it’s said to be one of the most ‘historically important and beautifully preserved’ towns in the Cotswolds.
Founded as a planned town in the late 12th century, its original layout can still be traced along the high street, from the Church of St James to the old Market Hall and the Court Barn Museum which celebrates craft and design in the Cotswolds.

Here you’ll find plenty of independent shops to mooch, cosy cafés and tearooms to tuck into local produce and galleries to browse.
There are plenty of walks around the area plus great places to stay too, if you decide to make a weekend of it.
Try 19th century Wyncliffe cottage with its lavender garden, Cotswold stone feature wall and woodburning stove. Or Pear Tree Cottage that’s within easy reach of Hidcote and the Cotswold Way walks.
How to get to Hidcote and Chipping Campden from Birmingham
It takes around an hour and 20 minutes to get to Chipping Campden, traffic permitting, via the A435.
