FARMINGTON — The Mt. Blue Area Garden Club (MBAGC) is offering its annual $1,000 scholarship to graduating high school seniors, recent graduates or homeschoolers in Franklin County, Maine, who are pursuing studies in botany, forestry, horticulture, forestry, ecology, or related environmental fields at accredited institutions. Applications must be submitted by April 1st for consideration. Applications are available as a downloadable PDF on the MBAGC website and at all local high school guidance offices.
The garden club believes in cultivating our community as well as our gardens. They sponsor this program each year with the purpose of supporting the next generation of environmental stewards and promoting agricultural education. Additionally, since MBAGC is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine (GCFM), scholarship recipients and any other student who is interested may also be eligible for state-level horticultural scholarships, which can award up to $3,000.
The MBAGC earns money for this scholarship fund through its annual plant sale, which takes place this year, and every year, on the third Saturday of May, at Meetinghouse Park near the gazebo in downtown Farmington. Anyone who is interested in helping with the plant sale or becoming a club member is welcome to join in these community service projects.
For more information about any of these opportunities, contact Erica Haywood, MBAGC President and Chairperson of the MBAGC Youth Scholarship Committee, at ehaywoodmaine@gmail.com.
