I had a rat make a rat nest to my compost two years ago, it dragged in all sorts of plastic and had approximately nine babies in there before I realized in Spring, what a mess it was! Now I check it periodically throughout the winter to make sure it hasn't been compromised. No problems this year!
I sifted all my compost yesterday, now I have it sitting in bins and i mixed in biochar, Now it will sit in those bins until April until I need it , that should let the biochar populate with microbes.

Do you not have an issue with rodents with this method?
