West Tuscaloosa neighbors are being invited to come together, share ideas, and help plant the seeds for something bigger than just a garden.

Community Service Programs of West Alabama, along with local partners, is working to develop a new West Tuscaloosa Community Garden located at 2715 26th Street, and organizers want the community involved from day one.

Before the planting even begins, residents are encouraged to attend an upcoming Community Garden Listening Session, designed to give neighbors a real voice in what this shared green space becomes. This isn’t just about growing vegetables. It’s about growing connection.

The listening session gives residents the opportunity to share what they would like to see planted, ask questions, and help shape how the garden serves families across West Tuscaloosa. Whether you already have a green thumb or simply want to learn more about gardening, organizers say everyone is welcome to pull up, speak up, and be part of the process.

The listening session will take place February 28 from 10:30 a.m. until noon at First Community Church, located at 2700 18th Street in Tuscaloosa.

The larger Community Garden Event is scheduled for Saturday, March 21 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the future garden site. The goal is simple: bring neighbors together to grow, share resources, and cultivate a greener future for West Tuscaloosa.

According to Community Service Programs of West Alabama, initiatives like this help strengthen neighborhoods by encouraging resident leadership, community beautification, and hands on engagement that brings people together beyond everyday life.
