Avocado grow fantastic in a pot mate. Thats all you need to do. People even prune the roots for this very reason.
Melbournians grow them in green houses.
looking to try this in california 9b and i put mine in 30 gallon grow bags and am gonna make a huge mound for it when its bigger in a few years
I have a similar track record with Avocado growing so I ordered some MycoGold after watching. It was delivered to my door in person, at Buderim, the next day. Turns out old mate lives just around the corner. Small world 🙂

Been trying for about 7 years to hget avocados going in Northern Tasmania. Tried a lot of stuff, they all dies in about the second or third year.
To adjust soil pH use agricultural vinegar. Watch out for sulfur in additives because the sulfur is hard on mychorrhizal fungi. An example of a source of sulfur is ammonium sulfate. I would think that ericoid mycorrhizal fungi is what’s needed. The soil will want fully composted organic matter. Unfinished compost is a mistake that many gardeners make. Unfinished compost contains short-chain organic acids that inhibit root growth. Because I have no experience with coir I won’t give an opinion but I have learned to be cautious and conservative about amendments. Oops, I just wrote a book.

Very similair problem in the High Mojave. Have you tried treating with cardboard seperator between the clay and top soil, hydrogen peroxide treatmeants and meal worm fertilizer?

Have you given Nutrog a go probably spelt it wrong. But they use microbes to prevent stuff from happening. Products like Whoflungdung, populate and many more items microbes are their thing Aussie product as well. Graham Ross swears by them.
I don't know if it was just the rocky, limestone soil, but a Danish friend in El Colmenar, S Spain seemed to grow avocado with ease, big, round trees, he reconned it was because only men used the trunk to pee on! He was known as 'The Tree Viking'.

Most retail avocados are not on disease resistant rootstock.

Avocados only have a taproot when the seed sprouts, short;y afterward, the roots spread and become fibrous. Mature avocado trees are known for having a shallow, wide-spreading fibrous root system — most feeder roots (the fine ones that absorb water and nutrients) stay in the top 6–12 inches (15–30 cm) of soil, sometimes even just under mulch layers. You want no organic matter in the planting medium but you wants a huge amount of wood chip mulch on top and well beyond the trees drip line. There is no nutrient value in that sphagnum moss mulch. You can also add to the surface Gypsum (Calcium Sulfate)m check it out.

Fingers crossed for success for you! I added locally brewed (BioSoil Solutions in SW AUS), fungal dominant forest microbes to my soil and accidentally cured a nearby eucalypt of rust fungus. I couldn’t find a rust free leaf before for many years, and now, not one with rust. Also appeared to work on leaf curl for a stone peach tree. The local business is now being contracted by councils to help save dying trees (the big heritage listed kind!). They’re having success ‘injecting’ the solution into the ground.

Need to put 1 sack of white lime in the hole, the white lime will stop the fungus from the root of the avocado .
Could you just grow avocados in a big raised bed that isnt connected to the soil under so its completely isolated?
Finally a video not just for members. Thanks I am on my 6th Cherry tree because of a root fungus of some sort. Lost an apple too. My avocados in another area are doing great.
Stop trying to grow HAAS variety. Choose one of the way better varieties that home growers choose. If you get the right variety you literally won't have to take care of the tree at all.
