This year the Valley of the Moon Garden Club is celebrating its 75 year anniversary. Founded in 1951 by local gardening enthusiasts Pete and Mike Kiser, the club began as a small group of friends meeting in homes to share tips and swap seeds.

Over the decades, the club has blossomed into a hub for plant lovers and community volunteers. On the second Thursday of each month, the club brings expert speakers on topics from sustainable landscaping to pest control, while seasonal plant sales have become local favorites.

Beyond education, members have helped shape Sonoma’s public spaces through gardening projects at schools, hospitals and community centers, supported scholarships, and maintained pollinator and rose gardens throughout the Valley of the Moon.

The club’s upcoming meeting on March 12 will feature guest speaker, Jeannie Perales, executive director at Sonoma Botanical Garden. Perales will talk about community gardens and the history and development of the Botanical Garden in Sonoma Valley.
