The Gunnedah Garden Club held its first meeting for the year on Monday, February 23, with 23 members in attendance.

We congratulated Julia Withers and Robyn Clydsdale for their photographic awards in the Our Gardens Magazine’s 19th Annual Photo Competition. Julia came second with her ‘touch of gold’ entry and Robyn won the productive garden or edible plants section with her basket of oranges.

The monthly flower competition results were:

First, Julia Withers’ narine.

Second, Sandra Tydd’s black geranium (with many wanting a cutting of this beauty).

Third, Ann Penrose’s ginger flower.

The vegetable competition results were:

First, a tie between Julia Wither’s onions and Fay Byrne’s cherry tomatoes.

Second, Ann Penrose’s bunch of herbs.

This year’s Christmas Basket Donation will be going to Gunnedah’s little three-year-old twin Tori, to assist her family with medical expenses.

Thankfully, she recently rang the Cancer Free Bell, so things are looking up for her.

Sue Walker was the hostess for the day and the raffle, donated by Ellen Mitchell, was won by Sandra Tydd, with the second prize being won by Pam Shaw. Next month the hostess will be Gwen Donaldson and Fay Byrne will bring the raffle.

The meeting closed, followed by commencement of the AGM.

The new president is Robyn Clydsdale, secretary Cecily Jaeger, assistant secretary Lyn Sanson, who is also public officer and in charge of tours, welfare Sandra Tydd, WH&S Fay Byrne, publicity Shirley Palmer and patrons Esma Gardner and Marg Hill. The morning tea ladies are Sue Schofield and Bev Smith, Patsy Elphich and Judy Chapman, Sandra Tydd and Cheryl Field.

Unfortunately, there are committee positions still vacant but hopefully by next meeting this will be resolved. Members thanked outgoing president Joan Harwood for her dedication in recent years, and outgoing treasurer Trish Conway for her work over the past 12 months.
