Gijang Maehwa Garden, a privately owned farm in Gijang, quietly turns into one of the region’s earliest signs of spring each year.

Before the cherry blossoms begin, visitors come here to photograph blooming plum blossoms, and the location has gradually become known through social media rather than traditional promotion.

Although it is private property, the owner opens the grounds to the public free of charge for a limited period each year.

Because the opening dates change annually, checking the viewing schedule in advance is essential.

For 2026, the open period has been extended compared to last year, making visits a bit easier to plan.

From information we found online, the dates are usually on weekends and is open February 27 and 28, and on March 1,2,6,7,8, 14 and 15.

The hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m with the last entrance at 4 p.m.

Visitors arriving by car can park near the entrance along the outer roadside where farm vehicles usually pass.

Public transportation is also straightforward — Bus No. 139 stops right at the entrance, with connections from Jangsan Station, Songjeong Station, Ilgwang Station and Gijang Station.

From the roadside stop, it takes about two to three minutes uphill on foot to reach the farm gate. The walking route forms a loop: visitors descend to the left, circle the garden, then gradually return uphill.

As of mid-February the flowers are only beginning to appear, with peak bloom expected in late February to early March.

The garden is still not widely known among the general public, which helps preserve a quieter atmosphere.

Many people visit specifically to experience spring before cherry blossom season begins.

The drive to the site also passes several kilometers of roadside cherry trees, making the same route worth returning to later in the season.

Located only about 5 km from Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, the garden can easily be combined with another coastal stop in a single outing.
