I posted the 1st photo here a few years back and it pains me to say but the 2nd photo is the sorry state of the very same cactus today. Over the years he has consistently shrunken and I can't figure out why. It still seems healthy, its not shriveled or wrinkled even but the girth is a shadow of its former self. I know the angles aren't the same but its current size is about half the size it was at peak girth.
The shrinking happened slowly over a few years and I thought maybe the pot it was in originally (1st photo) was too small so I repotted it in a bigger one to give it more room to grow. Unfortunately the shrinkage continued to its current state. Any idea what happened this poor creature?
I know it's unlikely, but is there any way to save him?

needs stronger light source definitely but the shrinkage might just be severe dehydration
How’s your watering? This cactus goes dormant from November to march so should not get ANY water during those months but still bright sun. During growing months, water this guy a lot more than a regular old desert cactus because this is a tropical cactus. It does not like to dry out as much as desert cacti. Do NOT drown it right away but slowly acclimate it to getting more water and make SURE it is in very well draining soil with a draining pot or you will cause the roots to rot.
