Pelargonium, but geranium is a common name. Not to be confused with the herbaceous ones.
In Canada i can imagine frost will make them a bit difficult, but in most of Australia they can be an easy, chuck them in a neglected garden and let them fend for themselves type of plant. Very drought tolerant and easy to propagate.
