Hi, as per the title. The slope is around 8-10% and is currently all grass. There are some larger trees at the boundaries of the property (maple, ash, beech) but their roots seem elevated to what one would normally see. The soil is quite heavy and is around 16” deep on average sitting above a thin rocky/rough gravel layer that sits on top of a shale and sandstone bedrock.
I would ideally like an apple tree orchard on that slope but am open to other ideas to help keep the soil stable and getting some productive use out of it.
The attached photo is of a runoff ditch that’s about 4’ in depth. Is it even worth bothering with the orchard idea here or would I just be wasting my time?
