  1. Laura. I can see how you bury your feelings in work. You are not ok. I can tell from how fast you speak. You are hardly breathing. Please take time off and be with your babies, maybe just working at your mom’s store. No filming. I am so sorry this happened to your family.

  2. Ting has a plug in device that will alert if there is an electrical problem. I don’t know how it works though. State Farm gave it to us free. You might want to look in to it.

  3. Hi Aaron and Laura, I am soo glad all of you escaped unharmed! Bless little Bejamin for his quick reaction… Real Hero! You had everyone worried about your safety! Stay safe! ❤❤❤❤

  4. None of my business but, try not to instill your fears of what might have been on Samatha. You mentioned having her sleep with you and to me that would be a big no! Teach her, but don’t scar her mentally.

  5. Update: Ting is a plug-in smart sensor that monitors a home's electrical network 24/7 to prevent fires by detecting micro-arcs and sparks from faulty wiring, outlets, or appliances. By plugging into a single outlet and using Wi-Fi, it analyzes electrical signals, notifies homeowners of hazards via app, and coordinates with licensed electricians for repairs

  6. First off, I love all your videos. I’ve learned so much over the years.
Question, seeing how you will have to remove your beautiful clematis trellis for the kitchen renovations would you reinstall it somewhere else? Such a gorgeous impactful piece. Maybe it could be reinstalled on the side of the flower shed, barn, pole barn or such?

  7. I am so glad you are ok! Angels were watching over you, your home and they whispered to your son to alarm you. You are blessed. Good job everyone!

  8. Wow Benjamin the hero 💙
So thankful you all are ok! Fire is so scary!
We are doing some home improvements as well. We didn’t want stark white cabinets so we are going with a light oyster gray.

  9. You should have a Super Hero themed party for Benjamin! And teach both kids about fire safety at the same time.

  10. When Aaron said "that sounds awful" about the juniper berries, I laughed so hard! 😂 I'm the same, they are not tasty to me at all!

  11. I’m hoping that during this renovation they will check/change your electrical and make sure it’s not knob and tube, since it is an older home. Better to be safe than sorry after this fire experience.

  12. So glad to get this update as I'm not on Facebook or the other medias! I can't believe you had a fire in the morning and are filming later in the day! So happy the fire was caught in such a timely manner and all are safe! Benjamin is wise beyond his years!

  13. THANK GOD the fire was caught quickly!!! Benjamin IS DEFINITELY the hero in this story!!! Will you be having electricians go through the wiring in the attic???

  14. Great job Benjamin!! So glad everyone is safe and sound. Quick thinking Aaron and get those fire extinguishers. Get ones you can recharge and hopefully your fire dept. can get you hooked up. Reno is messy but it will end and you will have something you love once it’s over. Hang in there!

  15. When I had a house that had bedrooms that were 3 stories high, I got escape ladders for each bedroom and stored them under the beds. Never used them, but gave me piece of mind.

  16. My friend has a fancy “outhouse” at her barn- it is adorable with a toilet and a sink. There is an underground barrel that the septic service comes and pumps out periodically. You could easily do something like that!

  17. Sometimes guardian angels come in the form of little boys with keen hearing ❤ Benjamin – all of us adopted Grammies are so proud of you. 🙌🏻

  18. They do make holding tanks that you bury & can pump out. Campgrounds that have seasonal RV spaces have them. You can get them pumped out, at a frequency that meets your usage.

  19. I have a question that you might not be able to answer but perhaps a viewer can. I struggle every spring with a bumper crop of stinging nettle in my chicken yard. I planted mint in one corner hoping it would spread and choke out the nettle. I’d rather fight invasive mint rather than invasive stinging nettle that requires practically a suit of armor to even walk in there.

  20. That’s so scary. I do insurance inspections for high value homes. Can de here in Tennessee/Mississippi is to have a smoke detector inside and in the hallway outside of sleeping areas. Also, some insurance companies require heat sensors in attics, kitchens, and above fireplaces. The heat levels are well above a summer attic temperatures. It’s HOT here in the summer and no one has reported to me that they falsely go off. Just thought I’d share. Fire terrifies me! Glad you are all safe and the damage was contained.

  21. First! You’re all safe ! Little Benjamin to me, he’s a little angel. Still sure of his surroundings and anytime. A child tells you something. You have to listen right away so many times Parents just brush it off, but if a child comes to you with a concern, never dismay it in second I know you guys can take care of things yourself but this is definitely something that would not have happened. If the crew was careful and safety first I hope they will take care of the damages and not take advantage of this beautiful family. I know you’re kind people and you don’t wanna place blame but any insurance company would tell you let them take care of the damages that they caused and I’m so happy your family is safe.💖🦋

  22. I have clean homes for 50 years and have seen many surfaces. Do not do gold fixtures.. big mistake. brushed nickle is very durable. as for cabinets anything with an panel edge will collect dirt and dust. smooth cabinet doors are so much easier than the panels ones. good luck with your choices.

  23. You all always amaze me at how positive you are! This sounds SUPER stressful. The fire and the resulting MESS. Glad everyone is OK!

  24. But if you're going to end up choosing to put a bathroom in place of the root cellar better decide before you spend money on the other half bathroom.

  25. Evergreen needles don’t really decompose very fast, not that I’ve seen anyways. I live in boreal forest territory so it’s decently moist during the summer, we had needles that stayed the same for years on the grounds. It’s just that when you get rain it causes an “acid wash” into the surrounding soil. That’s why a healthy spruce/pine standing doesn’t normally have an understory!

  26. Home practice of a fire drill monthly of what to do in case of a fire was a huge part of our fire safety curriculum when I taught 2nd grade. Always having a meeting place outside away from the house for family members to meet was a crucial part of our instruction. Roll up ladders that attach to the wall under windows are easy for kids to manage and are true life savers. Thankful this happened when Benjamin was on duty. He is right. He is the hero of the day!

  27. Benjamin is a hero! ❤ Thanking God for His protection for your beautiful family. 🙏

  28. Thankful everyone and your beautiful house is safe. Is that a five car garage across the way from you??? Is that typical of your new neighborhood if so? Enjoy your videos.

  29. Fire extinguisher you aim… when able to.. at the base of the fire not the flame.

I am SO happy you are all safe. And your home is OK . What a horrible way to have a life lesson.

I had the starting of an electrical fire when my kids were toddlers. We had just left to go out and that little nag in the back of my head .. you left the stove on… kept telling me to go back home… thankfully I listened. Kitten had chewed a lamp cord behind the couch, when I walked past the couch I heard " DRIP DRIP DRIP" there was no water source in that area. It was just starting to spark burn marks like a cigarette burn on the floor and baseboard.. I used my foot to get the plug out of the wall and put a very wet towel on the burns. Needless to say we did not go back out. I rewired the lamp and scolded the kitten for chewing wires. Cats and rodents for some reason like to chew wires.

  30. What about an out house laura?😆😂 I know you could decorate it cute just like the mail shed!!

  31. Using a designer for your remodel really takes the pressures off. They can take what you like and put it all together for you.

  32. You should create a story board for your laundry room, you put samples of everything, paint can color, mouldings, handles. Much cheaper than the mistakes!

  33. After visiting Sweden we discovered a toilet called ‘Cinderella’ it’s what you need for your studio. We were so impressed we looked into a franchise opportunity in North America. You tube it. In Sweden they used it for remote cottages built on rocks where you can’t bring in underground plumbing.

  34. Wow! Aren't you lucky that Benjamin was so alert and caught that something was amiss! The Lord was certainly watching over your family! Now I finally understand the comments you made earlier about your attic fire!

  35. WOW, so happy you guys are safe! ❤ We all have intuitions, especially young kids. If they say something or if you feel it in your gut or in your being check it out!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

  36. So thankful your family is safe. My heart dropped when you described your fear when you realized how close the fire was to Samantha. 😢. Again I am so grateful.

  37. what a blessing the fire was slow growing. Glory to God 🙏🏾
very thankful you all were safe.
    👍🏾 to Benjamin! 🥹what a guy😉

  38. Having worked in construction and renovation for years, having a fire on your job location is absolutely terrifying. So often old wires get jostled (no one’s fault) and fires can start. Even the best contractors have it happen (think Notre Dame Cathedral). So glad Benjamin heard the popping sound and you are all safe (including Russell) and the damage is minimal. Aaron shutting off the electric was brilliant. Unsticking windows and getting ladders for getting out of second story bedrooms and practicing it with your kids is a great idea.
