Leave winter at the door when you enter a first-of-its-kind immersive indoor park at Landscape Garden Centers.
The greenhouses at 47238 271st St. have been transformed into a lush, sensory escape — open for three days only.

The Outdoor Edit will be held beginning with a VIP night Feb. 20 and continuing Feb. 21-22.
Guests will explore a landscape filled with greenery, flowing water features and cozy spaces to relax. Designers will be on hand throughout the weekend to answer questions and spark inspiration.

“We said, let’s transform the greenhouses into a parklike setting that can just be awesome and work on all the senses that people are craving,” owner Erik Helland said. “It just makes you feel good.”

Tropical plants, flowers and unique trees largely were brought in from Florida, and all are for sale.

“We did bring in some new and bigger things,” Helland said. “We set this up with three distinct vignettes, or themes, of different landscaping.”

Different areas of the installation feature designs such as modern, rustic mountain and elevated traditional.
In the contemporary space, “you’ll see clean lines and aesthetic with multiple patterns and repeats,” landscape designer Cole Jenkins said. “The idea is to keep it clean and in line.”

The rustic mountain area is “also called Mountain Town,” landscape designer Sam McInerney said.

“Mostly evergreens and ferns that we’d typically see if we were in the mountains. Not a whole lot of color, mostly dark and light green.”
The “new traditional” vignette is updated with “the paver dimension and scale — it’s a little larger format, which is where most things are headed, but through maybe to an Old World cobble inlay,” landscape designer Trenor Javurek said.

The event also features free educational workshops, hands-on make-and-takes, food and drinks, and a special VIP experience to kick off the weekend.
“Every single guest will get a goody bag with a succulent,” event specialist Clare Buseman said. “On Friday, guests can pot their succulent and decorate it with materials, and Saturdays and Sundays, we’re kicking off the mornings with educational sessions.”

Make-and-takes, paid for at the door, will allow guests to make small custom centerpieces.
The Outdoor Edit was created in collaboration with Montgomery’s, Serendipitous Events, Knife River South Dakota, Gist Wine Shop, Cultivated in Love, The Source and Bloom & Branch by Landscape Garden Centers inside the Jones421 Building in downtown Sioux Falls.

“It’s a true collaboration with all our vendors,” Helland said, adding that Landscape Garden Centers also is open to hosting events in the space, including as it plans for next year.
