The 79th Annual Garden Symposium: Great American Gardens

đź“…April 16-18, 2026
🕞Times vary by day
📍Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation invites you to a symposium celebrating the legacy and living beauty of America’s most iconic gardens. Through engaging talks by leading historians, horticulturists, and scholars, the program explores how people, plants, and place have shaped one another—from Charleston’s historic landscapes to the visionary gardens of Bunny Mellon.
Presentations examine topics ranging from early American and Indigenous gardening traditions to overlooked women in horticulture, ecological design, botanical exploration, and the lasting influence of historic estates and designers. Together, these perspectives reveal gardens as works of art and as living records of cultural exchange, environmental adaptation, and identity.
Designed for garden enthusiasts, landscape professionals, and curious learners alike, the symposium offers inspiration, insight, and new perspectives on historic landscapes. Both virtual and in-person attendees receive extended access to lectures, along with admission benefits to Colonial Williamsburg. In-person registration also includes receptions, workshops, and special garden tours. A limited number of scholarships are available for students and emerging professionals.
In-person registration ends March 27, 2026. Virtual-only registration ends April 16, 2026. For more information, see here.
