TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A Garden City man died on Saturday after his vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train carrying over 100 occupants.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred in Edwards County, west of 310th Avenue and just north of U-50.
A 1999 Honda Civic was stuck on the railroad tracks, 25 feet west of 310th Avenue, facing westbound, when an Amtrak train heading eastbound on the track struck it.
The driver of the Honda Civic, a 25-year-old man, of Garden City, Kan., suffered a fatal injury.
KHP reports that the seatbelt usage is unknown.
The Amtrak train was carrying a conductor, an engineer and 113 occupants. There were no reported injuries.
