Well you just made your cherry tree angry and it’s going to grow more just to spite you. Don’t know about your maple. I’ve never worked on one.

Going forward, stone fruits, including cherries, should really be pruned in the summer. They run the risk of being infected with a fungus and dying if pruned in winter. It’s a risk though, not definite, so fingers crossed!
