A long-neglected wasteland has been transformed into a sanctuary of hope and belonging.

Now known as Gardd O Gobaith, or The Garden of Hope, the community space is located in the heart of Cwmbran and serves as a vibrant example of regeneration and care.

Designed to tackle social isolation and mental health challenges, the garden features a vegetable plot, upcycling shed, and a log cabin used as a meeting hub for support groups.

It has been shortlisted for the nationwide We Care Award at the 2026 Travis Perkins Managed Services Better Together Awards after being nominated by Bron Afon Social Housing.

Molly Harris, account manager for Travis Perkins Managed Services, described the project as “heart-warming,” noting that it embodies the true spirit of community power.

The garden proves that with collective ambition, even the most neglected spaces can be turned into resources that change—and potentially save—lives.

Created and maintained by volunteers, Gardd O Gobaith includes wheelchair-accessible garden plots and tailored support programs for neurodiverse groups to ensure everyone can take part.

Its commitment to inclusion is part of why it is one of only four projects across the UK to reach the final in the We Care category, sponsored by ProSolve.

If it wins, Gardd O Gobaith will receive a £5,000 grant from the Travis Perkins Managed Services Fund.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Silverstone Circuit on March 5.
