Ulsan Metropolitan City has launched plans to create a new community-centered garden space within Ulsan Grand Park as part of its broader effort to strengthen the city’s identity as a “garden city.”

The project, currently entering the detailed design phase, will be developed on a 5,000-square-meter site south of the Ulsan Museum.

With a total budget of approximately 550 million won, the area will feature a lawn garden, an urban gardening experience zone, rest areas, and walking paths designed to encourage public participation and everyday use.

City officials said the new garden will also be linked with nearby initiatives currently underway, including the development of a children’s integrated education and play facility and the planned National Ulsan Carbon Neutrality Science Center.

The proximity of these projects is expected to improve accessibility and increase overall visitor satisfaction.

The initiative is also viewed as part of Ulsan’s long-term strategy to shift its image from an industrial city toward a greener, more livable urban environment ahead of the 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo.

Construction is scheduled to begin in July following required approvals, with completion targeted for December.

Ulsan Grand Park, originally developed by SK Group between 1996 and 2005 and later donated to the city, remains one of the region’s largest urban green spaces and a major recreational area for residents.
