Hello everyone,

I am pretty experienced with cacti but never grew this species before. It was gifted to me about a month ago and has been callousing in the shade since then.

Can you tell me which cultivar of SP this is?

Would you say it is calloused enough to plant?

I am planning to do a 50% inorganic soil mix with potting soil, gravel, akadama and pumice and plant it about 5cm deep and stabilize with a bamboo stick. How long would you wait before first watering?

The cutting was grown indoor and it shows. I am in a pretty suitable climate where sunshine is abundant but temp can get pretty high? What is the upper limit it can tolerate?

Finally, what are the brown marks and those root looking things? Would you recommend to split this cutting in two to maximize the chances pups will appear?

I know thats a lot of questions but i hope to get any and all advice from you experienced growers. This cutting Im already attached to and was hard to get so losing it would suck.

Thank you.

ID is hard. Spine length suggests pachanoi genes, while deep and rounded rib shape suggests bridgesii genes too. I think it’s a hybrid. It looks acceptably callused, but there’s no too much outside of the risk of etiolation. I’d give it more time if it’s not pale-tipping yet and you are uncertain. If I want to soil it up while uncertain like this, I sit the cutting on a bed of pure perlite, with my 50% organic mix beneath that. I leave them dry for a month before watering, getting light but no rain under a clear tarpaulin.
