Is this clematis I’ve bought from the garden centre completely dead ? Or is it just because it’s still winter

  1. Mine doesn’t look alive yet so it could just be that!

It’s not looking great. Is there any new growth at all? Even around the base?
It might be worth taking it out of the pot and having a look at the roots, if they’re flexible and lighter in colour you might be ok and get new growth from the base. If they’re darker wrinkly or falling off – it’s likely a gonner

“Clematis ‘Blue Angel’ (also known as Blekitny Aniol) is not evergreen; it is a deciduous climber that loses its green leaves in autumn and produces fresh foliage each spring. It is a vigorous, hardy plant that produces large, pale blue, ruffled flowers from early summer to early autumn.
    Type: Deciduous climber.
Flowers: Pale blue, wavy, or crinkled petals with yellow stamens.
Flowering Season: Early summer to early autumn (June–October).
Height: Typically grows to 1.5–3 meters.
Pruning Group: 3 (hard pruning required, best cut back to about 1 foot from the ground each winter).
    Hardiness: Fully hardy (H6).”

The root may well be healthy. I have a “Queen Mother” that does the same thing

The left one is a variety that drops the leaves in the winter, so I don’t see any issue. This is exactly how my clematis looks in February and always comes back in spring. The second one is the apple blossom variety, I believe? This is evergreen so looks good

I tried 2 planting 2 clematis in the past year. They both failed me 😭😭 I swapped to roses and boy oh boy they’re loving my swap like clay soil
