About 100 years ago a nail was driven into this Blue Spuce, it is about dead center. It has significant decay of several inches in all direction. Any ideas of what damage this 16p nail has caused and would it stunt the overall growth of the tree?

About 100 years ago a nail was driven into this Blue Spuce, it is about dead center. It has significant decay of several inches in all direction. Any ideas of what damage this 16p nail has caused and would it stunt the overall growth of the tree?


I figured I'd find a bullet, but not this. What's notable is this is in a section of rather hardwood, but all around the nail it became rot and dust. Not unlike insect damage. Curious about growth because it's much smaller than it's sister spruce.
