This is the longest standing plant I’ve ever had – 6-7 years now.

Today I had to move. The weather here is -20 C (-4 F).

It normally sits in indirect sun light and the new location would have been less so. I’m honestly not certain the type of soil used.

It was in my car for about an hour (the car was not on).

The first picture was the photo just minutes before I took it to its death. I kid you not, I said “you’ll love your new home” when I put it into the car.

By the time I got it inside, it completely wilted over and looked like cooked spinach.

I dug up the roots .. they’re wrinkly. But firm.

I have ONE standing leaf but not sure if the bulb is big enough to let this guy come back to life..

I broke one in half by accident.

I looked online and it said to trim down any of the stems that appeared water damaged from the cold. Done… but I can’t help but feel like I’ve just ruined all of this.

Can I do anything with any of these? Or have I really lost hers?

  1. Bad plant mom. Check what temps they’re okay in next time.

I’m not versed on this particular plant, but as far as I can tell the “bulbs” look beautiful and undamaged. Could probably plant back in the soil and keep at a decent temp for a while to encourage growth. I could be way off though. Hope you get answers because I would cry!

They definitely can and will be able to grow again. But I hate to break it to you, it will take FOREVER. Possibly years until it bounces back. ZZ’s are extremely slow growers. I got one from my mother in-law for christmas 2024, it didnt start growing new sprouts literally until christmas 2025. And the stems and leaves it already had didn’t change in the slightest in that time 😅
