Ramaz students from Dr. Stein Kokin’s fall semester “Cultural NYC” elective visited a Smithsonian Museum right here in New York City: the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in the Carnegie mansion. The class went to see the exhibit “Made in America: The Industrial Photography of Christopher Payne,” which features pictures of factories from across the United States. Ever wonder how flags, city buses, jet planes, American footballs, tires and robots are made? Do you enjoy interesting photography? Then this is the exhibit to see!

The excitement didn’t stop there. After a semester of museums and galleries, jazz clubs and opera houses, Dr. Stein Kokin wanted to end the “Cultural NYC” course on a particularly fun note. Enter Madison Square Garden! In lieu of a final exam, the class toured the iconic arena, learning about its history, architecture and the behind-the-scenes tricks that make it possible to have hockey matches, comedy shows and concerts back to back. Sports fans in the group especially enjoyed getting to visit the Knicks’ and Rangers’ locker rooms. After the tour, interested students walked a few blocks down Seventh Avenue to Mr. Broadway for an authentic New York deli experience.
