  2. I might be totally wrong, especially regarding orchids, since I know almost nothing about them, but that pattern looks like what some plant viruses do. Did that pattern exist before the leaf dried out? Or did it show up only after it died?

    It’s probably mosaic virus of some kind…

    It’s a fungal infection. That pattern is actually a classic example of what the spore clusters of some fungi look like. The black dots on those round patches are spore clusters.

    This type of fungus is also common on snake plants.
