Otter Garden Centres in Ottery St Mary raised £42,170 for Hospiscare throughout 2025 through a series of events and activities.

The funds were raised through its Festive Adventure in December, which alone brought in £27,826, and a variety of other fundraising efforts.

Toni Hiscocks, Hospiscare Area Fundraiser for East Devon, said: “The generosity of Otter and all the volunteers is awesome.

“This will make a huge difference to the charity.

“When you consider the costs we face, over £1,000 for just 24 hours of care on the ward at Searle House and £650 for a specialist mattress, alongside the vital work of our nurses, therapists and counsellors, it’s clear why fundraising is so critical.”

The Festive Adventure, now in its second year, offered a magical Christmas journey for children, featuring Mrs Claus’s kitchen, animated reindeer sing-alongs, a snowy winter wonderland, and a land train ride.

Hospiscare volunteers dressed as elves and helped children write letters to Father Christmas and prepare reindeer food.

A further £14,344 was raised through raffles, bingo and quiz nights, and donation buckets for customers enjoying Otter’s singing penguin Christmas animation.

Managing director Jacqui Taylor, alongside Otter colleagues Lara White and Lauren Pearcy, attended a volunteer thank-you event at Ottery Football Club.

She said: “We’ve developed a very special relationship with Hospiscare, a charity that plays an incredibly important role in our local community. We know how challenging it is to fund these essential services, and we’re committed to continuing to support them in every way we can.”

Otter Garden Centre has confirmed it will continue to support Hospiscare as its chosen charity, marking the seventh consecutive year of the partnership.

Since 2019, the Otter Centre has raised more than £110,000 for the cause.
