This floral trend by Mike Boerma is especially close to his heart, inspired by his grandfather, Theo Boerma. Mike takes us back to its origins:

Despite its name, Dutch Garden Style has little to do with the English Garden Style. Instead, it features more of a fairytale garden, one where you can imagine yourself wandering through winding paths.

Its roots trace back to the early 1960s, when a Dutch gentleman, Dre Hendersen, presented the Parallel Style at the Floriade of 1961. At the time, his approach caused quite a stir. Many questioned whether a few flowers standing straight up could truly be called an arrangement.

For those who recognised its potential, however, it marked the beginning of something revolutionary. That moment sparked a movement that continues to influence floral design today.

Dutch Garden Style is not a parallel line order design, but finds it’s origin quite close to the introduction of this style and was very much inspired by it. Dutch Garden Style started around the late 60s.
