Fife Council’s West and Central Area Planning Committee approved an application for the mobile homes to be placed in the back garden of East End Cottage in Pattiesmuir.

The proposals had attracted two objections including one from the Charlestown, Limekilns and Pattiesmuir Community Council.

They expressed concerns over the impact the plans would have on the conservation area and fears over drainage.

Planner Jamie Ure told councillors that the self-contained caravans would be used for auxiliary accommodation by the owners of the 19th century cottage.

“It will also be used for the applicants currently living in the cottage to stay during renovation work and for the caravan to be used in the future to stay for visits.”

Mr Ure said the application had provided information regarding drainage to address the community council’s concerns.

“The application goes above and beyond the requirements set out in the design guidance for the surface water management,” he said.

“I have considered that the main issue is the impact of the caravans on the conservation area.

“They will be clad in timber sited 40 metres behind the Main Street. I consider this would not have a significant visual impact and would therefore preserve the character of the conservation area.”

The committee agreed unanimously to grant planning consent which comes with conditions that include the caravans only being for ancillary residential purposes.

They will not be allowed for use as a separate residential unit, a business or for any holiday lettings.
