Hello! I’ve had my fig for about 4 years; I bought it as a little baby plant! She’s been very healthy & has only dropped maybe 3-4 leaves in her whole life. I repotted her this past summer & she’s about 5 ft tall.

I’d love to encourage branching now. Should I wait for spring/summer to chop? Where would be the best place to make the cut?

Thank you in advance!

Can you move it somewhere where it will get more light? Like right in front of a window?

Then I’d prune it so that the cut is just a tiny bit higher than the window sill. That will give the new growth that comes in near the cut point as much light as possible.

If it’s been in the same pot for 4 years, it might be a good idea to repot it as well. It looks like it’s in a self watering pot and those always make me really nervous.
