Busted up a larger rock I had in my yard (it was there when I moved in, San Jose, CA) to try and come up with an arrangement for my first build (12" x 24" aquarium retrofit). I did the vinegar test, with no sizzling. So I think they're OK to use?
I have not cleaned them up yet, but I'm weighing that effort versus going out to a couple local specialty stores and buying a centerpiece (centerpieces) that would be specific for this use.
In general, I'm looking for recommendations on whether it's worth the effort to clean these up, and if there's any risk I could jeopardize the environment (which will be closed) by trying to save some money.
