This is the second tallest tree on our property, and it got struck by lightning about 15 years ago, loudest noise in my entire life….. it blew a huge chunk off the one side, but the tree has survived. My concern is all the rot around the base on one side, which has really gotten worse the last 5 years or so. Do you think this tree is a danger? We mostly get east/west winds and the tree is north of the house but that doesn’t make me feel better at all

Personally, I’d take it down but I’m risk-averse. Not worth a tree landing on the house.
