The Little Garden Club of Kosciusko met Thursday January the eighth at the KAP office. Linda Buskirk, president, called the meeting to order and members joined in the club prayer. Minutes were read be secretary, Trish Cullen, and approved as read.
Linda Buskirk introduced Mary Katherine Dean who serves of Executive director of the
KAP in Kosiusko. Mrs. Dean gave an informative program on What’s going on in Kosciusko and how tourism impacts Attala County.
In 2024, direct visitor spending in the county totaled $25.2 million. This breaks down to $ 5 million in Lodging: 6.4 million in food and beverages, $4.4 million In recreation, $5.5 million in retail, and $4 million in transportation.
328 employees are directly related to the tourism industry and 117 are indirectly related. Combined, there are 446 jobs supported by the county’s tourism economy.
Tourism remains the main focus. KAP is in the process of hiring a director for the Visitors Center And this person will be working out of the KAP office. Efforts are also being made to rebuild a group of volunteers to man the Visitors Center. Other events the KAP oversees are the Natchez Trace festival, the Central Mississippi fair and Rodeo, and Kosy Lights. Much is being done by this organization for community growth, business support, through downtown revitalization, and tourism.
Members enjoyed delicious refreshment-provided by hostesses Patsy Gilmore and Marie Griff.
