The lands surrounding Killegland graveyard in Ashbourne are set to be examined to determine the feasibility of creating a memorial garden.
At the January meeting of Ashbourne Municipal District, Fine Gael councillor Alan Tobin called on the Transport and Community departments to explore the possibility of the council engaging with the St. Finian Trust regarding the 0.40-hectare site.
The motion proposed that the council take the area in charge, landscape it, and install a dedicated memorial garden for the community.
“The area is 0.40 hectare, is zoned F1 Open Space, and is part of a protected area around the cemetery,” Cllr Tobin said.
In its written response, Meath County Council said it will “undertake an examination” of the site to determine its suitability for the proposed development and to identify any potential constraints that could impact the plan.
“The results of this examination will help inform the Council as to the appropriate course of action in relation to the site,” the local authority added.
