  1. The trays are indeed very good quality. Take a bit of learning to get perfect. I find the two soil layers (initial then seed covering) tend to separate which leads to poor results, so i dont compress the first soil layer, put the seeds on, then add another soil layer guestimating of how much i need to bury the seeds at X depth. Then compress all together.

  2. Please will you add a link for the marking pens? I am not familiar with that brand. Thank you!

  3. Containerwise modules really are ace. I bought them when we got our first house 2 years ago and hope they’ll last me forever. My Dad didn’t have such a great option when he started growing 40 years ago so he was over the moon to get some for his birthday. All because you and Charles Dowding promoted them. Absolutely spoilt to have started my growing journey with them and can’t see any reason to ever use anything else

  4. We’ve got about 8” (25cm..?) of snow right now.
    You’re in Wales, correct?
Plans are underway for a modest greenhouse this year

  5. can you do a video on starting in non-plastic? Cardboard or wood or things like that? We don't use plastic in the garden and we'd love to have more things started.

  6. Thanks so much…. so helpful…looking forward to seed masterclass…..just wondering what do you think of biodegradable pots and cells?

  7. My goto is the CD size (sorry 😃) because I have limited propagation space and I tend to err on the side of overwatering. They're no good for beans or squash and need planting out or potting on within a month. It's a joy to get rid of those horrid flimsy plastic things that take half a bag of compost to fill and fall apart as soon as you try to get the seedlings out.

  8. Containerwise trays and sylvagrow compost are my favourites too. I've grown my collection of containerwise trays by buying 6 to 8 new trays each year, and I'm almost free of the flimsy old things I used to use.

  9. This is super helpful. One thing that is still a challenge to me is having to handle gnats when planting seeds indoor. It’d be great if you could share with us how you handle this issue. Thanks for the great work and being encouraging!

  10. Would love to get these trays but I've seen they do not ship outside of UK, do you know if there is another way to get them? Any european reseller? I wrote them a while back but I havent heard from them 😢

  11. Thanks for another great video. I've got staedtler pens. I'm just starting back in to growing after 7 years )

  12. I have always pre-sprouted my peas, which works out great. I plant them out in rows, but seeing you sow 3-4 seeds in such a small module I am realizing I space them out too far apart at one seed every couple of inches. I will continue to pre-sprout peas but will start dropping three seeds together in a group as I plant the rows!

  13. I made the mistake of not planting enough peas last year. I planted a single row about 10 cm apart and then as they started to grow I saw a video that recommended 3 or 4 times that density per row. It didn't make great use of space, but they were still a tasty snack in the garden – I just wish there were more of them

  14. "Städler" pronounced Shtēdd lerr. Gread tip ❤
I'm gonna give a little talk in our next botanical society meeting, about labels 🏷 and their endurance. Also a soft B4 B6 pencil can last a good couple of years!
    Happy gardening to all M.m

  15. Huw, I absolutely LOVE watching you plant seeds!!! I bought some of your seed modules when you first offered them to us in the US and I'm still using them. They are the best and they make seed starting so much fun. Once I started using your modules, I became more confident in growing from seed. No matter how many other companies and garden YouTubers say their product is the better than everyone else's, I'll always be true to yours!

  16. Love containerwise best seed trays on the market will last a lifetime! I have your set and Charles set plus some of theese 40Ls and deep rooted! Am sorted for life 😁

  17. Love all your videos! Getting ready for spring but trying hard to go for the cardboard tube or newspaper pot option where possible. Seems to work ok.

  18. Perfect thank you! but sadly the trays aren't available in Canada…yet.
Rodents get my peas every time-sometimes I even see them eating from the vine!

  19. Im enjoying the downtime before the madness begins! Cheers for the tip with the pen!(and the gardening) Always some quality advice!

  20. Just put the Staedtler pen in my cart. Amazon US, $6 for one, $8 for 2. Free shipping for Prime members. And what I do to re-use labels is to put masking tape over the first plant name.

  21. Huw, some fantastic tips in this one so thank you for making this video. I especially like the one about the spray bottle, wouldn't have thought enough would come out but clearly im wrong 🙂

  22. Absolutely agree about Containerwise.
Pleased to hear your recommendation for marker pens after a disaster last year with hundreds of seedlings labelled with disappearing Sharpie ink! I thought it was supposed to be the best option so haven’t tried anything else til now.

  23. Quick correction; I accidentally called the deep tray for broad beans 40H rather than it actually being 28H 🌿
