When I did one of these, I cut off those shelf things because I didn’t want it to look like a grid with the spray foam over it. Thankfully I was able to take the back off so it was easy to cut. Then I put down insulation foam board, and cut shelves and bump outs out of insulation foam. I laid it down and used wire to hold all the sticks in and used spray foam over everything. Then carved it down with a dremel (messy) and put drylock on it, then painted it with acrylics to look like rock.
