Liberal put it together to top a good Garden City team 59-54 in girls basketball Tuesday night in the Big House.  LHS led by as many as 10 and GCHS led by four in the second half.  It’s Liberal’s 11th straight and 22 of the past 23 against Garden City in girls basketball.

Liberal took early leads of 4-0 and 8-4.  Liberal led 12-8 after one quarter.  The Lady Redskins took a 23-15 lead after a Kylie Rhine three pointer.  Garden City rallied to cut the lead to 23-20.  LHS claimed a 26-20 lead before Garden City drained a 3 before half to make the halftime score 26-25 LHS.  Garden took a 30-26 lead early in the second half.  LHS connected on their first three (3 pointers) to lead 35-30.  It was 42-39 LHS after three.  LHS took a lead of 47-39 and 50-42 early in the fourth quarter.  Liberal took their biggest lead of 54-44 with 6:30 to play.  GCHS rallied to make it 56-52 with 2:02 remaining.  LHS led 58-52 with 1:11 to play and held on to win 59-54.

Liberal made 6-15 from three point range but 4-7 in the second half.  GCHS was 6-28 from three.  Liberal was 7-11 at the foul line and Garden was 13-20.

The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game was Shamari Lewis with 21 points .  Kylie Rhine scored 16.

Garden City is  7-4 and 1-1 in the WAC.   Liberal is 7-2 and 1-1 in the WAC.  Liberal hosts Dodge City Friday night at 6pm with Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
