They go through months long dormancy cycles. Be careful not to overwater. In my experience; bright (direct sun if possible) light water only when dry, fertilize lightly every few weeks.

You are going to get ~6 months of healthy leaves. Eventually leaves will start to overgrow and bend. At this point, trim all leaves and stop watering entirely. Ler it sit barren for 3~4 months.

_Then_ bring it back to life with a few weeks of light watering, being careful not to drown.

If you did everything right the year prior, you have like %75 chance of getting flowers.

The cycle then repeats ad nauseum. Flowering -》 leaves only -》 flowering.

That’s how they get you. They wait until you’re not looking.

I planted an avocado pit directly in some soil once at the advice of a coworker. I had no idea if anything was happening and was getting reeeeeal impatient and was ready to throw it out. Coworker told me, “just keep waiting!!”

I went on vacation and when I came back, the top was finally cracked open and starting to sprout. Little jerk.
