The blaze at McArthur’s Store resulted in substantial damage to the roof and the inside of the building.

Firefighters spent 12 hours tackling the blaze at the building, which dates back to the 18th century and was used to house many of the local fishermen’s equipment.

Many in the town have already rallied round to offer support and Dunbar Garden Centre has named Dunbar Harbour as its charity of the year.

A spokesperson for the business, off the town’s Spott Road, said: “Like all in our community, we were devastated with the news of the terrible fire at McArthur’s Store, Scotland’s oldest working fisherman store, last year.

“We hope by having them as our charity of the year and with the support of our customers, team and community, we can help raise some much-needed funds to help repair and rebuild.

“We’re looking forward to working together for the rest of the year!”
