Hello! As someone who's new to caring for houseplants and propagation, I recently got a Synogonium Pink. I've been keeping it in water for almost 10 days, but since I'm still learning, I'm wondering if that might not have been the best choice. 😒

Do you think the roots could be rotting? Would it be better to transfer it to soil to help it recover? Any advice would mean a lot to me! 💚

Some plants take more or less time to root in water. 2 weeks has been the bare minimum I’ve seen with pothos but my syngonium white butterfly took about a month to show any signs of growing roots in water prop. The browning is totally normal. It happens with almost everything I’ve water propd.

Hi friend! Clear off any rotting matter—gently with your fingernails under running water. If it’s soft or slimy is has to go! Unless it feels like a root beginning to shoot out (they’re usually white). Peel away the brown/yellow/deadness. I mean ALL of it. That decomposing in your water is stunting it.

Change your water every day, running your fingers in the glass to check for slime which calls for a soap & water wash.

Once you get rid of the brown on this clipping you should be able to see or feel where the root node is. Sometimes these will sprout from any node, not just the one closest to them. Keep in a bright window for now not harsh direct light although I’ve found my pink & albo thrive face pressed to a window.

Maybe throw a *clean* pothos clipping in there too and see if they can’t form a symbiosis growth spurt.
