WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — On Thursday night, Winter Garden officials will decide if the city’s golf cart map will be expanded. The assistant city manager, Steve Pash, said it is something the community has been asking to change for years.
What You Need To Know
Over the summer, the city received hundreds of responses from their survey, most of them said they supported a move to lower the speed limit to add more streets to the golf cart map
In November, the city lowered the speed limit from 35 to 30 miles per hour on 8 streets, so they are ready for golf carts
Commissioners are expected to make that decision Thursday during their meeting at 6:30 p.m. If approved, the new golf cart map would go into effect immediately
Now, it’s in the hands of the commission. Over the summer, the city received hundreds of responses from its survey. Most of them said they supported a push to lower the speed limit to add more streets to the golf cart map.
Chip Perfect just moved to Winter Garden a few weeks ago. A driving factor for the move — because he could cart around.
“Normal tasks. They are just a little more fun if you are doing them in a golf cart,” Perfect said.
It’s what he uses most to run errands.
“My golf cart is electric, but I am getting gas for my power washer,” Perfect said while at the gas station.
The proposal from the city would make his route to the gas station even easier.
“I think it is outstanding, I mean people in this community have embraced it and people certainly appreciate the ability to drive around and run errands on the golf cart, etc. so I think it is nothing but positive to expand the area for a bit,” Perfect said.
The focus is on areas north of West Colonial Drive to add to the map. In November, the city lowered the speed limit from 35 to 30 miles per hour on 8 streets, so they are ready for golf carts.

But it still needs final approval from the commission before people can drive down the road.
“I had one for many years, but I primarily used it on the golf course, I didn’t drive it much on the streets,” said Dean Kurtz, who lives in Winter Garden.
While he doesn’t drive a golf cart in town, he knows they are a common sight while having coffee with his daughter.
“This is one community, I think it was built for, people here accept them and have grown to embrace it so in this town, I really don’t have a problem with it,” Kurtz said.
Commissioners are set to make that decision Thursday during their meeting at 6:30 p.m. If approved, the new golf cart map would go into effect immediately.
