Invasive vines with bulb-like roots. Any idea the type of vines? Any tips or advice welcome.
We are trying to clear brush/thicket behind and around our property. We are finding vines choking out trees and we want to help the trees as much as possible. Attached are the roots/bulbs and a Ugg boot size US Women’s size 9
Looks like smilax if so not invasive at all but rather a native vine and a summbitch dealing with the thorns

Nut sedge, perhaps. You can cover the area on black garbage bag so light doesn’t get to it. You can pull manually but if even one tuber is left behind, it’s gonna grow again.

How do you know it’s invasive but don’t know what it is..?

I thought you meant the boot was a plant I’ve never seen …

Is it edible?

Thanks for the UGG for scale.

I can’t see the leaves well, but it could be kudzu. The vine that ate the south has very big tuberous roots as well.

Might be Smilax vines/tubers
It would help if you show the leaf and if you have any picture of the flower as well.
Looks like some form of [Smilax](https://bonap.net/Napa/TaxonMaps/Genus/County/Smilax) (greenbriar). Greenbriar is an agressive but native vine that grows in brambles
