My string of pearls has been on a significant downward trajectory, and I’m so frustrated I honestly just want to start over. How would I propagate this SOP? Most of the nice long strands look not great near where the strand comes out of the dirt (see pic 3), so I’m not sure where I should take a clipping from. I’ve never propagated a plant before, so any guidance through the process with this specific plant would be appreciated.

Put all of the strands in the pot, they will root in the soil and it will look fuller
Oh man, a lot of people kill these, I’ll give you some tips:
* Soil needs to be chunky and aerated.
* Only water when the pearls deflate a little bit. They kind of turn into a little butt. Soak the pot in water for about an hour. I usually water mine about once or twice a month.
* Sun, as much direct sun as you can give it.
If it was me, I’d just start over completely. You have PLENTY of strings you can propagate. Remove the leaves by slidding two fingers down where the prop will be in water. You want to remove the pearls because they will rot in water. Cut as many strings to 3” each so you can create a nice full pot. As the strings grow, just put them back into the pot so they can reroot into the soil (as other people have mentioned)
Once you have your cutting repot in a chunky aerated soil. I use an aroid recipe for mine and she’s quite happy.
Using a utility bucket and a garden scooper or an ice scoop…
* 1 scoop of cactus soil
* 1/2 scoop worm castings (optional, but good for nutrients)
* 1/2 scoop of compost (optional, but good for nutrients)
* 2 scoops perlite
* 2 scoops horticultural charcoal
* 2 scoops orchid bark
Mix it all up, and you want to get the impression of, “that’s chunky” If you don’t get that impression, add another scoop of charcoal and perlite.
