I was sent here from r/landscaping and they thought you guys would have better answers. I have these two giant trees and I love them they provide amazing shade in summer, they look beautiful, and just had them pruned as they had many low hanging branches. My question is if these roots are coming out of the ground because the tree needs them to or can I throw dirt all over them and seed to cover them up? I dont want to damage the tree and I dont wanna take it down. Also I know I have been told to remove the bricks around the base. I will be doing that soon. Any tips or comment help. Thank you!

If it were me, I would just mulch the entire yard with wood chips, while being mindful of the tree’s root flare. Are you attached to the idea of having grass? You could probably lift the grade a little with a sand/compost mix and seed it, but I do not think you would solve the root problem, and the grass would probably struggle. Whatever you do, keep the root flare exposed!
