ZEE5’s Saali Mohabbat continues to receive positive responses from both critics and viewers, gradually establishing itself as one of the platform’s notable crime thrillers. Directed by Tisca Chopra in her directorial debut and produced by Manish Malhotra, the film is appreciated for its atmospheric storytelling, emotional depth and unconventional narrative style. Starring Radhika Apte and Divyenndu, the film moved away from the typical fast-paced thriller format and instead offered a slower, character-driven experience.

Radhika Apte highlights the role of nature in Tisca Chopra’s crime thriller Saali Mohabbat: “Plants and gardening were characters in themselves”
Speaking about the symbolic role of nature in the film, Radhika Apte said that plants and gardening played an important part in shaping the narrative. “It is very relevant even today to talk about nature, plants and trees, and how we constantly underestimate what they are and what they’re capable of,” she said. According to her, “plants and gardening were characters in themselves,” creating a quiet interplay within the story. She added that this approach brought a sense of stillness to the film, noting that “trees are the only beings that don’t travel,” and that this stillness influenced the overall mood.
Radhika further noted that audiences generally expected thrillers to be fast-paced and action-oriented, but Saali Mohabbat followed a different approach. “You usually expect a thriller to be fast-paced and action-driven, but Saali Mohabbat is nothing like that,” she said. Describing the film’s visual and emotional texture, she added that it had “a very distinct aesthetic,” shaped by Tisca Chopra’s writing and visualisation, combined with natural elements and Manish Malhotra’s sensibility. “The coming together of these elements creates something truly beautiful,” she said.
Through its restrained storytelling and visual language, Saali Mohabbat subtly highlighted nature as a silent yet influential presence within the narrative. The use of stillness helped build an unsettling atmosphere, allowing tension to develop gradually while also drawing attention to how easily nature’s role was overlooked.
Saali Mohabbat is currently streaming exclusively on ZEE5.
