I’d like to start planting in my apartment but I do not know what I should plant given my lighting and space. Air is typically humid, around 50%, if that matters. I get a lot of sunlight given the large windows in my living area and bedroom. Thank you.

1. How many plants do you want? A few large, a few small, or indoor jungle?
2. Do you want to spend money on additional lights? Windows are great, but your room is quite long, and what looks bright to us is not necessarily bright to a plant. Some corners of your room are darker than you think, and some bright spots might only be bright for a few hours a day.
3. Humidity matters a lot, but mostly when there isn’t enough. You’re good there. 50% humidity at normal indoor temperatures is fine for plants. Drier than that can start to cause problems (plants will lose water too fast). More humid is fine for plants, but can cause issues for humans if you don’t have air circulation (high humidity is fine if you keep the air moving).
If you think you want to go **big**, I would genuinely recommend getting a light meter. You can find out how much light you’re really getting in the different parts of the room, and what plants will go where. You’ve got a blank slate, and a big window. A light meter will give you a huge headstart and putting plants in ideal locations.
If you want to go slow, avoid adding lights as long as possible, then I would look at the brightest parts of your room and put your plants there. That’s going to be near the window, and the walls getting the most sunlight (probably where you couch and TV are, but maybe the angle you get the sun at is actually good for the wall closer to your door).
Pothos, spider plant, snake plant are the most fool proof, low maintenance, indestructible and easily available for a newbie.
After that, there are dozens of different plants big and small that you will have success with.
Which direction is the window facing?
Also if you’re new or not the best at caring for plants (like me) start with low-maintenance plants like pothos, snake plant, zz plant, etc.
