RICH COUNTY — Federal investigators have joined the search for a 16-year-old girl who remains missing nearly seven months after she vanished from northern Utah, authorities said Monday.
Kylie Arellano was last seen in Garden City at approximately 10:52 p.m. on May 29. The Rich County Sheriff’s Office reported that the teen was officially declared missing the following day.
In a status update released this week, the sheriff’s office confirmed that a federal Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) is now assisting in the recovery effort. Arellano’s information has also been uploaded to the National Crime Information Center and the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System to aid in a nationwide search.
Arellano is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 115 pounds, with brown eyes and chin-length brown hair. Officials noted she has black dental braces and several tattoos.
Authorities have not released details regarding the circumstances of her disappearance or whether they suspect foul play, but the involvement of federal resources suggests an intensified push to locate her before the end of the year.
Garden City, a popular resort town on the shores of Bear Lake, often sees high seasonal traffic, and investigators are hoping someone who visited the area during the late May period may have seen the teenager.
Anyone with information regarding Arellano’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Rich County Sheriff’s Office at 435-793-2285.
