What’s wrong with my pothos? It’s quite possible it has thrips, but I don’t feel like that’s what’s causing the new leaves to come out already blackened, is it?
I water it about once a week, and the pot does have drainage. The soil is just the original potting mix it came with when I bought it. The plant is in a bright spot but without any direct sunlight. It’s been in the same place since I got it, next to a monstera that’s doing quite well.
I’ve had the pothos for a while, and the problem with the new leaves turning black started recently.

I think thrips can cause damage to new growth?
don’t water by schedule, water when watering’s needed. pothos don’t *really* start drinking until they start climbing. switch it over to an aroid mix. the crap it’s in is crap 😉 likely miracle gro garbage or coco coir peat. too dense.
leave it (that growth tip) alone. it’ll push that out, and keep on pushing out a leaf there, until a clean one emerges. has happened to me a LOT. i’m a chronic over waterer by nature, and have to constantly check myself.
thrips, you’ll see. might need a small magnifying glass, but a close look should be good enough to pick up w/ eyeballs. check leaf undersides.
get a pack of bamboo kebab skewers. use as a ‘dipstick’ to check moisture by sticking in pot ALL the way down into the pot (don’t worry about piercing a root or three). leave in for 5-10 seconds, remove smoothly. look at for clinging soil, and/or a darkening of the skewer. only water when 1/3-1/2 dry, by depth.
it can handle early morning/late afternoon sun (shallow angle) no problem-it’ll increase variegation w/ more light.

Thrips damage would look different (fighting with little f…s for a while now), my guess is watering , but i may be completely wrong
