MIgardener: How to Make a FREE Fertilizer From Leftover Turkey (DIY Bone Meal)
Bone meal is something that we all have heard of, and many of us spend big bucks adding it to our garden. Did you know you can make it for free with leftovers?
this year we did most of these steps, but we put the carcass in the pressure cooker for 2 hours, blended up what was left and freeze dried it as dog treats. man it gives them stinky farts but they love it. we do this a lot with rotisserie chickens, pick them clean and do the same process to get broth and treats out of it, but maybe i will have to put some aside for the garden.

I do something similar with rotisserie chicken carcasses. After we use the meat from the carcass, I put it in the blendtec with a little water and run it on high a few times to make the funky chicken smoothie. I then will bag the smoothie in snack size Ziploc bags (you can also make ice cubes and bag those). When I transplant, I put in a half baggie or so at the bottom of the hole and then will put some soil on top and then transplant. It's a more well rounded fertilizer since there's meat and sinew also.
My dad got a deer 🦌 earlier this year and so I dig a couple trenches in my garden and buried the awful, sprinkled a little lime, and planted my garlic 🧄 above it.
I do a mix of what adventure with Jim and Karen and Mustard Tiger do.
I freeze bones in two gallon size bags. Once I have two full bags, I break out my 10-quart Instant Pot and make two batches of 4-hour pressure cooked bone broth. I use all of the bones for both batches, so they are first pressure cooked for eight hours, plus an hour each batch to come up to pressure and an hour each batch to naturally depressurize. So, they’re in the pressure cooker a total of 12 hours.
Before roasting them in the oven, I put them in the sink, cover with water, and rub all of the meat, fat, sinew, and cartilage off of the bones. Then I spread them out on a foil lined full sized baking sheet and roast for about 90 minutes.
Once roasted and cooled, I put them in a doubled brown paper bag and smash them with a mallet. Those pieces then go into my Blend-Tec and get powdered.
Just and FYI Luke, I JUST got notice of this video. I’ve been subscribed for YEARS.
I know you’re trying to figure things out with the numbers and what’s happening, so I thought I’d let you know. It’s Dec. 19th 2025 and you created this video weeks ago.
I have hesitated doing this as I has quite a few raccoons and possums that would really love this. I have chased them out of my compost a number of times after dumping cooked pumpkin rinds.

That is actually too cool 🙂 Yes, boil longer. I've boiled for broth and after a couple hours (and less), I get my bones out clean. I never thought about making my own bone meal, so thank you!❤😊
I just RESUBSCRIBED. YT did unsub me and I just watched your 'short' regarding viewership. This is happening to most I sub to. Either un-subbed, or still stubbed, but nothing showing up on my feed. I'm re-subscribing either way. What a non-clever way to shadow ban folks, plus not have to pay them either.

Great video! I've always hated tossing the bones once I'm done boiling them!

After bone broth is made, the bones are actually quite flexible. I have not made bone meal so I will try this.

Tear off the dark and light meat for making white turkey chili

Awesome I will try this out, Thanks Luke
Vegans are science deniers. You have to eat 4 lbs of broccoli to match the protein content in the average four ounce hamburger patty.
