The council shared the announcement on social media today stating the service will take a short break from Thursday, December 25, 2025, until Monday, January 19, 2026.

Residents have been urged to check their calendar so “nothing gets missed”.

A spokesman for Basildon Council said: “Our Garden Waste subscription service will take a short break from Thursday, December 25, until Monday, January 19, 2026.

“Please check your calendar so nothing gets missed.

“To receive reminders and updates straight to your phone, download the ‘Our Streets’ Basildon app from the App Store or Google Play.”

From Monday, January 19, residents will be able to recycle their real Christmas tree by placing it beside their green wheeled bin on their normal collection day.

A spokesman added: “You do not need a garden waste subscription to recycle your real Christmas tree.”

This comes after Southend Council emailed subscribers this week to confirm their paid-for garden waste service will also be suspended for three weeks over the festive period.

Southend Council says their pause will allow its contractor, Suez, to focus resources on recycling and non-recyclable waste collections, as well as improving the collection of real Christmas trees.
