Monty Don – £3.9million
According to popularnetworth.com, Monty’s net worth as of 2022 was around £3.9million – though other estimates have placed him at anywhere between £1million and £4million. But in the 80s, he and his wife Sarah “lost everything”.
The stock market crash of 1987 saw their successful costume jewellery business nearly go under, despite once catering to celebrity clients like Michael Jackson and Princess Diana, as access to the American markets was cut off. Monty ended up on the dole and unemployed in 1992.

He admitted: “We were lambs to the slaughter and we lost everything, […] we lost our house, our business. We sold every stick of furniture we had at Leominster market.”
Thankfully, Monty was able to build his empire back up, writing a range of bestselling books and launching into a broadcasting career.
