October also failed to bring about a reversal in the sales trend for the gardening and pet trade. Retail sales of flowers, plants, seeds, fertilisers, etc. – as summarised by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) – recorded a nominal decline of 1.3 per cent in October compared with the same month last year. In real terms, the decline amounted to 2.8 per cent.
